During the civil war, Margaret experience the death of her son-in-law Jonathan Newhouse, the husband of her daughter Mary Salina. A short time later, joy returned to the family when Mary Salina remarried Levi Harris a friend of the family who had moved to Jasper County about the same time as their family did.
