Major Moran was retired from the United States Army National Guard (GAR). He began his military career as an enlisted man attaining the rank of Sergeant between the United States Army and the New Jersey National Guard. He managed to attain a billet in Officer Candidate School and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the New Jersey National Guard. He was later promoted first lieutenant and transferred to the California National Guard relocating to Anaheim, California. Lieutenant Moran was an armor officer who attained a set of orders to active duty in the early 80s was promoted again to the rank of Captain and commanded his own company of tanks for four years in Germany. Returning to the United States in the mid 80s, he joined various units in the GAR program in the State of Maryland ranging from Aberdeen Providing Ground to Woodstock Nike Missile Site. After returning to the United States he was promoted to the rank of Major and retired after 22 years of service in 1993. He passed away almost three years later from complications with a brain tumor.
