Mary was the daughter of Samuel S. and Avis (Drew) Baker of Thompson Street Ashland; and is a sister to Esther Jane, 2nd wife of Barnet Hughes.

Mary Mooney Smith Baker and Francis Marion Hughes were married August 20, 1861.

Died April 28, in her 71st year, Mary Mooney Hughes, wife of Francis M. Hughes, and daughter of the late Samuel S. and Avis Baker.

Funeral services were held at her late residence on Thompson Street Tuesday afternoon, April 30, Rev. Mr. Avery officiating. Mrs. Hughes was an active member of the Free Will Baptist Choir for more than 56 years. She was also prominent member of the O.E.S. and W.R.C.
