WALL LAKE, Iowa -- Betty Jo Thayer, 78, of Wall Lake died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake, with the Rev. Carl Lee officiating. Burial will be in Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt.

Born Dec. 9, 1924 in Sac County, Iowa, Betty Jo Thayer was the daughter of Albin and Josephine (Brynteson) Carlson. She grew up in Odebolt, graduating from Odebolt High School in 1942. She furthered her education at the University of South Dakota. Betty Joe returned to Odebolt and worked several years for the Cracker Jack Company in Odebolt. She then was employed as a legal secretary at Dresselhuis & Heidenreich Law Firm for 32 years, retiring in 1989.

On Oct. 27, 1946, Betty Jo was united in marriage to Bob Thayer in Odebolt.

Betty Jo was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Wall Lake and was a 50-year member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing bridge and cribbage, knitting, sewing and working jigsaw puzzles.

Survivors include her husband; three children, Steve Thayer and his wife, Patricia, of DeWitt, Iowa, Sue Thayer of Leavenworth, Kan. and Sandi Wagner and her husband, Brian, of Carroll, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Erin Thayer and Tami and Chad Wagner.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Curtis Carlson
