In a note from Doris Bavis she states James Hughes built the A.W. Cooley house on Thompson Street.
James Hughes left his farm unoccupied on the Bristol Road to work during the winter months in this village. On going home one evening last week he found it occupied, the occupant, however immediately making a hasty retreat on his entering. He found his goods packed ready for removal by the retreating party. It was a bold piece of business and all hope the guilty party will be brought to justice. >The Ashland Citizen, January 11, 1890, p5.
Mrs. James B. Hughes has donated to the Episcopal Church a memorial window which will be dedicated in honor of her husband at the church next Sunday. >The Ashland Citizen, September 2, 1926, p2.
