Obituary of The Columbus Enquirer-Sun, Thursday Morning May 28, 1925, page 2: Gumbur Gartrell McRae, 32, died at the hospital at 11:40 o'clock Tuesday night where he was taken from his home, 2718 Third Avenue, Friday after an illness, with a complication of diseases. Mr. McRae was well known in Columbus, where he had resided nearly all of his life. He had been connected with the sanitary department of the city for nearly two years. Surviving him is his wife, one daughter Ruth L. and one son Gumbar Gartrell, Jr., his mother, Mrs. Queen Victoria McRae, of Thomaston, Ga., one brother, J.C. McRae, of Columbus, and four sisters, Mrs. Ida Bell Bryant and Mrs. Luddie Bryant, of Dothan, Ala., Mrs Myrtle Spinks, of Thomaston, Ga., and Mrs. Laura Wheelis, of Eatonton, Ga. The funeral will take place from the home at three o'clock this afternoon and the interment will take place at Riverdale cemetery.
