AUSTIN -- Dale Richard Guttormson, age 70, of Austin, died Wednesday, March 17, 2004, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.
Dale was born Oct. 4, 1933, in Mower County to Roy and Mabel (Basness) Guttormson.
On June 6, 1953, he was united in marriage to Kathleen Fink at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Austin.
Dale was plant manager of Austin Ready Mix for 35 years and retired in 1995.
Dale's family and friends were a big part of his life. He enjoyed spending time outdoors gardening, fishing, Friday afternoons at the Fish Shop, camping trips to northern Minnesota and traveling to Florida in the winter. He was an avid fan of dirt track racing and Nascar. He took great pride in making special keepsakes out of wood for his loved ones and was an active member of St. Augustine Church.
Dale had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife: Kathy Guttormson, Austin; children: Cindy (Allen) Crom, Stewartville; Dennis (Michelle) Guttormson, Austin; Mary (Rob) Gleason, Austin; special daughter-in-law: Lana Clark, Austin; grandchildren: April Crom, Andy Crom, Daniel Guttormson, John Guttormson, Jitauna Guttormson, Hunter Gleason and Mitchell Gleason; great-grandson: Michael Crom; brothers: Ray (Frances) Guttormson, Austin; Arnold (Lucille) Guttormson, Crosslake; Jim (Janet) Guttormson, Austin.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Roy and Mabel Guttormson; son: Michael Guttormson; brother: Delmer Guttormson; sisters-in-law: Millie, Dorothy and Donna; brothers-in-law: Newman and Arnold.
A memorial mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 20, 2004, at St. Augustine Catholic Church with Father Joe Fogal officiating. There will be a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Friday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also 1/2 hour before the service at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.
Honorary casket bearers will be his grandchildren. Musicians will be Shirley Cahill, Jesse Smith and Carrie Braaten.
