Funeral services for longtime Dove Creek resident Sam Eugene Crain will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 27 at the Dove Creek First Baptist Church. Interment will follow at the Dove Creek Cemetery.
Sam was born October 29, 1926 in Porum, Okla. the son of Luke and Ada (Johnson) Crain. He passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Southwest Memorial Hospital at the age of 89.
At the age of four, Sam moved to Dove Creek. He attended school there until her volunteered for the service during his senior year in high school. Sam was stationed in Japan during World War II with the United States Army. Upon returning to the area, he met Imo Southerland and they married December 23, 1950. The couple had two daughters, Peggy Daves and Imogene Hampton. Sam farmed for a year, mined a short period of time, finally hitting his hitch "trucking." He drove truck until the young age of 88 when he converted his CDL to just a driver's license.
Surviving Sam are his daughters, Peggy Daves (Eddie) of Cortez, and Imogene Hampton (Bill) of Grand Junction, Colo.; his grandchildren, Dakota Cressler (Lindsay) of Dove Creek, and Trinity Cressler (Britney) of Cortez; his great-grandchildren, Walker Cressler, Chorbin Cressler, and Gaige Cressler; and by his sister, Maxine Hawkins of Michigan. Sam was preceded in death by his parents; by his loving wife, Imo Crain on March 16, 2015; and by his siblings, Ruby Wolff, Eloise Snyder, Lester Crain, and Leroy Crain.
Memorial contributions may be made in Sam Crain's name to the Troy Young VFW Post #5181 in Dove Creek.
