Marion (Art) Biggs was born on September 27, 1927 in Petersburg, IN and he passed away on May 26, 2016 in Sugar Land, TX after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion William and Eathel Davis Biggs, an infant sister, a daughter, a granddaughter, a great-great granddaughter, and 2 great grandsons. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Marguerite Irene Garcia Biggs, Carol McQueen (sister), Michael W. Biggs (son) and Linda, Janet Benich (daughter), Sheryl Leland (daughter) and David, and Norman Biggs (son) and Mary Jo. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, 8 great-great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Art attended Purdue University from 1945 to 1946. He joined the Marine Corps in 1946 until 1948. He served in the Marines Reserves from 1948 to 1951. He started his career in the newly, created Television Industry in 1949 as a Television Technician with KOTV in Tulsa, OK. In 1958, he was transferred to KHOU in Houston, TX and promoted to Chief Engineer from 1959 to 1978. He coordinated the construction of a new broadcast building with studio at their current Allen Parkway address as well as a new tower and transmitter just inside of Highway 6. He was promoted to a corporate position as Vice President Engineering from 1978 to 1983 with Corinthian Broadcasting Corporation, New York, NY. After the sale of television broadcast properties by Dun and Bradstreet in 1984, he returned to KHOU-TV as Chief Engineer and Assistant Director of Engineering for Belo Broadcasting. In July 1986, he accepted an offer from KPRC-TV as Chief Engineer. After retiring from KPRC, he worked a couple of years for Citadel Communications where he supervised the construction of broadcast towers and transmission systems. He was a member of Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers, (SMPTE) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Inc. (IEEE). Art loved working on his stamp collection which he started as a young boy and his collection grew until his illness made it too difficult to continue. He enjoyed the beach with many trips to local beaches and Mexican coastlines. He was a loving husband to Marge, and wonderful example of a father to his five children. "A father's legacy is not riches, possessions or worldly goods of any kind; it is the way he lived, the lives he touched, the promises he kept. It is the kind of man he was." This quote from an unknown person describes our Dad. Art volunteered weekly at the Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) at The Sunshine Resale Shop in Bellaire, TX. He was a long time member of St. Luke's Presbyterian Church where he was an Elder. Art's family wants to express their appreciation to his caregivers.
