When he died in Proviso Twp. Cook Co., IL on May 20, 1941, he was listed as a 51 year old porter, born in Chester, SC on Dec 20, 1889, the son of William Hill and Luveania Cannon both natives of SC and husband of Maggie Hill.

His wife Maggie j. Hill of 410 S. Parkway, Chicago applied for a government headstone for his grave and one was shipped to Lincoln Cemetery to mark his grave as a veteran of World War One.
