Our beloved Thelma Reeve Curtis passed away on May 25, 2016 in Layton.

Thelma was born August 29, 1927 in Ogden, the last of four children of Douglas William and Laura Ann Hislop Reeve. Thelma started piano lessons at eight years old and became an accomplished piano player, performing, accompanying, and teaching piano.

She attended Davis High School and the University of Utah, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in High School Teaching.

After WW II, Thelma met Clifford Hindley Curtis at the University of Utah. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on December 21, 1948. They were blessed with four daughters and would go on to move from Utah to California, residing in San Francisco, Redwood City, Woodside, and, most recently, San Carlos.

After their four children had grown, Thelma returned to school and obtained her Master's Degree in Special Education from the College of Notre Dame in Belmont, California. She worked as an elementary special education teacher in the California Redwood City School District for many years and privately tutored after full-time employment.

Thelma was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in Relief Society, accompanying choirs, and teaching parenting skills. She was also a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She enjoyed playing the piano, painting, arts and crafts of all kinds, crossword puzzles, and was an avid reader.

Thelma is survived by her four daughters, Ann (Keith) Youngquist of Orem, Patricia (Michael) Fotheringham of Martinez, California; Carol (George) Pitts of Olympia, Washington; and Joan (Terry) Haven of Kaysville; thirteen grandchildren, and twenty great-grandchildren. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters, Barbara Gunn and Shirley Argyle; and brother, Douglas Earl Reeve.

The family expresses their sincere gratitude for the tender care Thelma received over the last six months from the Fairfield Village of Layton and thank Inspiration Hospice staff for their compassionate care of our mother in her final days.

A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, May 31, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Winder Ninth Ward Meetinghouse, 1495 East 4705 South, Millcreek.
A graveside memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in the Skylawn Memorial Park, Highway 92 at Skyline Boulevard, San Mateo, California.
Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Thelma's life.
