Richard Samuel Vanderbilt, 62 years old, of 28 Hubbard st., Gravesend Beach, a retired police patrolman, died yesterday of pneumonia. He contracted a heavy cold while attending the funeral of his son, Richard S. Vanderbilt Jr., who was buried in Gravesend Cemetery last Friday. Mr. Vanderbilt was born in Patchogue, L. I., and had been a resident of Gravesend Beach for forty-three years. He was formerly a fisherman, later a policeman under the late John Y. McKane, and for twenty-six years was a member of the Brooklyn force. He was stationed at Fort Hamilton when he retired two years ago. He was a past noble grand of The Woods Lodge No. 121, I. O. O. F., of Bath Beach, and a member of the lodge for thirty-three years. He is survived by his wife, Eveline Hinman; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Louise Lindeman; two grandchildren, and two sisters, Mrs. Frances Albin and Mrs. Nettie Sweezey, both of Patchogue, L. I. The funeral services will be held on Sunday afternoon, with interment in Gravesend Cemetery.

Richard Samuel Vanderbilt, the retired police patrolman, of 28 Hubbard Street, Gravesend Beach, who contracted cold at the funeral of his son, Richard S. Vanderbilt, jr., and died within the week, will be buried to-day in Gravesend Cemetery. Mr. Vanderbilt was a member of the Brooklyn force for twenty-six years and was a Past Grand Noble of Woods Lodge, No. 21, I. O. O. F. A wife and daughter survive him.
