James Brophy and Sarah Fitzpatrick Brophy, Irish immigrants from County Tipperary, came to Bell Ewart (Innisfil Township, Simcoe County, Ontario) between 1856 and 1858, and remained there for life. They raised a family of eight known children.
James and Sarah and their family appear in the census records of Innisfil Township in 1861, 1871, 1881, and after the death of her husband, Sarah appears there in 1891. Their home and property were recorded at Concession 4, Lot 23, and a son Francis (Frank) J. Brophy lived next door at Concession 4, Lot 24.
Widow Sarah Brophy died there on January 21, 1898, as recorded in Schedule C, Death Register, County of Simcoe, Division of Innisfil (p. 347 No. 6), but no grave marker has been found.
Also buried without marker at Our Lady of Assumption R.C. Cemetery is son Frank Brophy (born 5 Sep 1866 at Bell Ewart), who died 3 Nov 1943 in Toronto and was returned to Bell Ewart for burial 5 Nov 1943.
