Eleanor Freeberg was born in Duluth, MN on March 17, 1927, one of three siblings although she was the youngest by 13 years. She grew up in West Duluth and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1945. One day, while waiting in line to vote, she bumped into a boy she had known all her life, Duane Carlson. Even though they grew up less than 3 blocks apart, neither one had really shown an interest in the other, however that day something happened. They started dating and were married in May 10, 1952. Duane was truly the love of her life. They were married 49 years until Duane passed away in 2002. They had a daughter, Claudia that died during birth, and two other children, Gregory (Kiki), Bemidji and Sandra, Blaine. Although Ele was a very loving wife and mother, she also proved that she was very independent, living by herself for many years until moving to the GoldPine Home in 2013. The greatest days of her life were spending time with Duane and family at their home on Big Turtle Lake.

Eleanor loved her family, her grandchildren, Jacki (Joshua) Johnson, Ramsey, MN Alexander (Abby) Carlson, Hudson, WI, Derek Getzel, Andover, MN and Christopher Carlson, Hudson, WI. She also had two great-grandchildren, Camayla and Connor Johnson, Ramsey. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren always had fun visiting Gramma Ele. Although Ele was a frugal person, for the most part, she never found a purse or a pair of shoes she didn't like.
