She was born on January 3, 1925 in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Oscar and Myrtle (Naser) Witte of Mishicot, WI, and graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1943. Rachel married her true companion, Harry R. Zik of Two Creeks, WI, on June 12, 1948. He preceded her in death on November 7, 1993. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Two Rivers and a member of several local bridge clubs, one of her very favorite social activities. She loved playing any and all card and board games, from fish and UNO to checkers and dominos. Rachel was an active member of the community, enjoying the Elk’s Club camaraderie with Harry, golfing in the ladies’ golf leagues at Fairview and Fox Hills Golf Clubs, bicycling at Point Beach and Peninsula State Parks, volunteering as a first grade teacher’s assistant for several years, and being a reliable rainy day/winter walker at the Two Rivers Community House. Seemingly always on the go, Rachel’s car was her lifeblood. Going for a ride just about anywhere for just about any reason was never a very bad idea. She loved traveling throughout Wisconsin and the United States whenever the opportunity arose.
Survivors include her sister: Joyce Wegner, Mishicot; three nephews, to whom she was like a second mother: Brian (Cyndi) Wegner, Paonia, CO, Bruce (Gail) Wegner, Francis Creek, and Doug (Renee) Wegner, Two Rivers. Other relatives and friends also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband: Harry; and two brothers: Robert and Jerome Witte.
Cremation has occurred at All-Care Cremation Center, Manitowoc, and a private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
