CHESTER CLARK COLLINS

Born July 19,1922 in Sioux City, Iowa

Died November 3, 2007 in San Carlos, California

Chester (Chet) Collins was born to Lyman Collins and Eva Bennett on July 19, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa.

He grew up in Iowa and Missouri with his younger brother Everrett and his mother After his father was killed in a car accident when he was 5 years old, and because of hard economic times, the three of them would move often for work and stay at their many relatives homes in the Midwest.

He enlisted into the Army during World War II and after the war moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and accepted a job with United Air Lines as a mechanic.

Chet met Tinzy Bernice Sparks and they were married on September 10, 1949.
They moved to Redwood City in 1953 where they raised their family of two sons at 2490 Oregon Avenue.

Chet and Tinzy truly enjoyed supporting both their sons' efforts in sailing regattas, swimming meets, and softball tournaments.

Chet could be found in his shop fixing or building something for his family or neighborhood friends nearly all the time.

His shop was always a place for friends to stop by and enjoy some light hearted moments and a cold drink.

When he had time, he enjoyed playing golf with his brother and close friends John and Leapha Schrack of Selma, California.

Chet retired from United Air Lines in 1982 after 36 years serving as a mechanic and lead inspector.

During that time he spent many years serving as the secretary treasurer for the International Aerospace Mechanics Union.

After retirement Chet kept very busy helping to build his son Ed's house and participating in the events of the United retirees group.

He often would travel many states away to help his other son Jon with his projects, whether it be building a greenhouse, or remodeling the inside of his house.

He would go to no end to show his love for his two sons and wife.
Chet was known for his strong political opinions on whatever was happening in the world, but most would say he was better known for helping someone in need.

Chet passed quietly in his sleep on November 3, 2007, after a short illness with dementia and heart disease, at Bayview Villa in San Carlos.

Chester Clark Collins is survived by:
