DEATH TAKES MRS. MARTIN OF ELMDALE



Widow of Explosion Victim To Be Buried At Chillicothe Today



Following a service at Elliott's Funeral Home, Monday morning at 9 o'clock, the body of Mrs. Dovie Pate Martin was taken overland to Chillicothe for burial beside the grave of her husband, J. J. Martin, victim of a nitroglycerin explosion near Electra in 1926. The service was conducted by J. Howard Stewart, a local Church of Christ minister.

Mrs. Martin who had resided with a son, Earl J. Martin, at Elmdale since the death of her husband, died in a local hospital Sunday at 4:30 p. m. She had been suffering from a heart involvement for some time, the condition becoming critical last Friday. She was 51 years old.

The Martin family llived at Electra at the time of Mr. Martin's death. Previously they had resided at Chillicothe. A section foreman of the Fort Worth & Denver railroad, Mr. Martin and three Mexican laborers were killed when a charge of nitroglycerin went off as they worked on the right of way. The presence of the explosive, unknown to Martin and the crew, was never accounted for.

Mrs. Martin is survived by 10 children and 11 grandchildren. Daughters are Mrs. R. F. Jefferies, Conroe; Mrs. Howard Reed, Breckenridge; Mrs. Pat Cotman, Abilene; Marie, Margaret, and Louise Martin, Elmdale; sons are C. J. Martin, Electra; E. J. Martin, T. & P. section foreman, Elmdale; L. J. Martin, Electra; H. J. Martin, Elmdale. All of the children attended the funeral and accompanied the body to Chillicothe for burial rites.

Mrs. Martin was a member of the Church of Christ.
