Kenneth Whitford Riddle, Jr., 78, of Milford, died Sunday, May 29, 2016 at the Delaware Hospice Center in Milford. He was born March 8, 1938 in Media, Pennsylvania, son of the late Kenneth Whitford Riddle, Sr. and Alice Sill Riddle. Mr. Riddle proudly served his country in the U.S. Army then graduated from West Chester College with a degree in Education. He spent many years in Newark teaching physical education to children with disabilities, a job he truly loved and took pride in. He also volunteered with Delaware Special Olympics and was an avid fan of all teams "Philadelphia"- especially the Eagles, Flyers and Phillies. He enjoyed singing in the choir in church and at the Delaware Veterans Home, where he resided until his most recent illness.
He is survived by daughters, Cristin Riddle Schultz of West Grove, PA and Dr. Kelly Riddle Keener and husband, Scott of Clayton, DE; a son, Dr. Andrew Whitford Riddle and wife, Catherine of Millsboro, DE; grandchildren, Cameron, Peyton, Evan, Nolan, Danielle, Owen, Sean, Nathanael, James, Anthony, Gabriel, Maria Grace, AnnaClaire, and Patrick; and his former wife and lifelong friend Marjorie Ebell Riddle.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Milford, DE, on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 10:30 AM. There will be a private burial at Cumberland Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Delaware Veterans Home, 100 Delaware Veterans Blvd, Milford, DE 19963 or Delaware Special Olympics, 619 S College Ave, Newark, DE 19716. Arrangements are in the care of Short Funeral Home in Delmar.
