Richard was the son of Earl and Eva Mae Chapman. He was the second of six children. He attended Ben Lomond High School and was an honorably discharged Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict.
Richard was an iron worker for many years before working at the Defense Depot Ogden (DDO) as an Inventory Specialist. After DDO's closing, he was transferred to Shriver Air Force Base in Colorado, where he lived until 2013.
Richard was married and divorced.
At the time of his passing, Richard was survived by one son, one stepson, and one granddaughter. He was also survived by two brothers and two sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kim Chapman.
