James J.W. "Tooby" Coxey, 95, went to be with the Lord on March 28, 2016, at Life Care Center of Rhea County. He was the son of the late William and Ethel Coxey and a longtime resident of Rhea County. James was a member of the Mountain View United Methodist Church and also attended Old Washington Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was an avid sport fan and loved to watch the Tennessee Lady Volunteers basketball. James was a longtime and dedicated member of American Legion Post 100 for over seventy years and was also a World War II veteran where he was decorated with a Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by: wife, Eloise Coxey. Survivors include one daughter, Joy (Tom) Horsley, of Dayton; one son, Eddie (Linda) Owensby, of Dayton; three grandchildren, Scott (Candi) Owensby, Kelly Brooks and Jana (Mike) Bice, all of Dayton; three great-grandchildren, Barrett, Cody and Courtney Bice. Service will be Wednesday, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Coulter-Garrison Funeral Home, with Rev. Rusty Revis officiating. Visitation is Wednesday, from noon to 4 p.m. int he chapel.
