Mary Tarantino
August 14, 1927 – November 29, 2015

Mary entered into rest November 29, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in the cardiology recovery room. She was surrounded by her daughter, son, niece JoJo, and daughter-in-law. Mary was born August 14, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and graduated from Lincoln High School there. In 1950, she moved to San Diego with her family. Her first job was at Bank of America in downtown San Diego. She told many stories of the fun she had there with all of her Italian girlfriends. She married Pete Tarantino on November 21, 1953 and the following year was blessed with a daughter and four years later she was blessed with a son. She was always a homemaker, but when her children got older she went out into the work force once more. She worked for the Stewart Title Insurance Co. with her sister-in-law Millie Mussomeli. Wow, and the wild stories of the fun they had! She later went on to work for a bank in downtown San Diego where she key punched payments into the system. She enjoyed that, but was much too social to sit behind a desk. Her next adventure and longest was working for the San Diego City Schools as a food server. She worked at several schools in the Clairemont area and her last assignment was at Mesa College, where she retired from. She didn't stay retired long as she then went into business for herself. She did child care out of her home, Tarantino's Day Care. She wouldn't allow herself more than three children at a time to ensure all the children received equal attention. She loved these children as if they were her own and they loved her back. Up until the time of her death she had always stayed in touch with one of the child's families. Dylan Pigeon was always referred to as her baby. She tried and tried over the years to find the other two children she cared for, Alec and Matthew. She so wanted to meet up with both of them but the Lord took her home before time would allow. Dylan, Alec, and Matthew, Mary would want you to know she loved you so much.

She loved big dogs, Gus who was one of the family dogs was her favorite. She was a fun loving person that was always the life of the party and had a lot of parties herself at her home over the years. She liked to cook and bake, watch the food channels, read, do crosswords, play columns on the television, take care of her flowers, and her hobby was ceramics. She liked pretty things. She adored her three grandsons, Edward Martinez, Andrew Tarantino, and Aaron Tarantino and loved to make chocolate chip cookies with them. Her favorite thing to do was to go out to eat! She helped out at every bingo night at Saint Catherine Laboure Catholic Church in Clairemont. She loved bingo! She loved to laugh and had many friends. Sister Ursula and Sister Kathleen she loved you dearly. She loved her neighbors; Tom, Ken and Dorothy, Romi, Luann, Elsie, Janet, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Chacon, and Mary. Her family left behind is unbelievably devastated and misses her so much already in the short amount of time that she has been gone. She was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by all that knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents Caterina and Angelo Mussomeli, and her loving husband Pete Tarantino who passed in 1992. In addition, she is preceded in death by her siblings: Andrew Mussomeli, Sandy Torcellini, Vincent Mussomeli, and Sister Josephine Mussomeli. She leaves behind her daughter Marguerite Martinez and husband Ed of Valley Center, CA, and her son Phillip Tarantino and wife Anabel of Hemet, CA. She is also survived by her three precious grandsons, Edward Martinez, Andrew Tarantino, and Aaron Tarantino (wife Chasity). In addition she is survived by her two brothers Peter Mussomeli and wife Millie of San Diego, CA and Sal Mussomeli and wife Ann of San Diego, CA as well as her brother-in-law Jimmy Tarantino and wife Jan of Lakeside, CA. Mary had many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews all whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by Martha Tarantino, the mother of Andrew and Aaron.
