Sgt Barnes was wounded in action on March 26 when a mortar shell exploded near him. He died of his wounds the next day.
He was a 1963 graduate of Woodlawn High School and was a student @ Catonsville Community College when he enlisted in the Army in March 1966. He qualified as a paratrooper and volunteered for duty in Vietnam. He had served in Vietnam since December 1967.
In addition to his wife, he was survived by his mother Mrs. Louis H. Barnes and a brother Thomas M. Barnes.
