She was the daughter of Curtis G. Smith and Lydia Ann (Bryant) Smith, born in Belmont County, Ohio. Louisa's siblings were: Rachel Frances (Smith) Taylor (1855-1909), Mary Elizabeth Smith (b.1856), John William Smith (1858-1938), Edward B. Smith (1860-1947) and Clarence Smith (b.1865).
Louisa married Hiram Lewis Aikin (1858-1932) on 28 Feb 1881 in Belmont County, Ohio. Louisa and her husband resided in Carroll, Carroll County, Iowa and Maple River, also in Carroll County. At sometime between 1915 and 1920 the Aikin family migrated to Ada County, Idaho and settled about 5 miles west of Boise.
Louisa and husband, Hiram Aikin were the parents of Emma Lenora "Nora" (Aikin) Phillips-Luse (1882-1928) and Harold Louis Aikin (1892-1965).
