Raul passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in Modesto, CA on Saturday, May 28, 2016. Raul was born and raised in Hollister and had fond memories of growing up on Powell Street and the Dunne Park neighborhood.

He had a passion for music that started at a young age. After graduating from Hollister High School as part of the Class of 1956 (The Spirit of 56 as he would say) he joined the United States Navy. He had various occupations throughout his life but his main passion was music.

He enjoyed being a part of the ECV (Clampers) Band, The Bob Bouchard Big Band Orchestra and various other bands. Raul is survived by his six children. Julie Farmer (Bob), Raul Acosta, Jr., Anastasia (Stacey) Acosta, Michelle Goodwin (Jeff), Amando Acosta and Alexandra Acosta. Six grandchildren, Natalie and Nicole Levario, Adam and Jocelyn Acosta and Melissa and Justin Goodwin.

Three great grandchildren Madison Cloud, Matthew Sanchez and Dominic Melgoza.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016 at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home at 11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life to follow at Paines Restaurant. In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Raul Acosta Sr. Memorial Music Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.
