Shelby Jean Gibbs Acklin, 79, of Holland passed from this life on November 24, 2016. She was born December 25, 1936 in Holland, Arkansas to Vernon Gibbs and Velma Wilson Gibbs. Shelby met her husband Jimmie when she was 9 and he was 11. They were married almost 62 years before his passing. At age 40, Shelby returned to school and received her Bachelor's Degree from ASU. She went on to receive a Master's in Social Work from UALR. She was employed by the VA Hospital in Little Rock and was also a devoted pastor's wife until retirement.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jimmie Charles Acklin and sister Lynn Spring.
Survivors include daughter Larna Humble and husband Daniel of Brinkley, son Steve Acklin and wife Laura of Little Rock, grandchildren Jonathan Humble, Jeffrey Humble, Kara DiCarlo and husband Vance, Rachel Eckles and husband Clark, Wesley Acklin, great grandchildren Henry Humble and Evelyn Jean DiCarlo. Other survivors include siblings Doug Gibbs and wife Kim of Fortuna, California, Carolyn Lucas of Northern California and Ray "Dusty" Gibbs and wife Karen of Eureka, California along with a host of extended family and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 1pm, Tuesday, November 29, 2016 Bishop-Crites Funeral Home with Bro. Freddie Mark Wilcox officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Holland.
