“2328. Cornelius Welles Pendleton was born at Brooklyn, N. Y., 4 January, 1859. He was graduated from Brown University in 1881, and during the next three years taught school and studied law at Salinas, Calif. Following his admission to the bar of that state in 1884, he practiced for a year in San Francisco, and then located at Los Angeles, where he has since made his home. He was a member of the California State Assembly for the 30th, 31st, and 34 sessions, was chosen Speaker of the 34th Assembly, and was elected to the State Senate for the next two years. In 1906 Mr. Pendleton was appointed U. S. Collector of Customs for the District of Los Angeles.

Cornelius W. Pendleton married at San Francisco, 12 July, 1886, Elizabeth Ellis Brower, born there 16 Oct., 1859, daughter of John Duryea and Harriet Louise (Morton) Brower.

Issue, born at Los Angeles, Calif.:

3596. Cornelius Welles, Jr., b. 28 Oct., 1888. He is an undergraduate at the University of California.

3597. Albertine, b. 20 Sept., 1891.”
