Marcella “Joyce” (Gudahl) Settell died Sunday, June 5th 2016 at Platte County Legacy Nursing Home in Wheatland.
Joyce was born Saturday, October 29th 1921 in Bordeaux, Wyoming. She was the daughter of Oscar Bernhard Gudahl and Grace Viola (Broyles) Gudahl. She graduated from Wheatland High School and then went to “Normal Training” and became a teacher. She taught in country schools.
Joyce married Harold Augustine “Gus” Settell on November 7th 1943. She was very active in the Platte County community. She belonged to Laramie Dell, Wheatland Garden Club, WTK, BFW, and several card clubs. Joyce enjoyed all of her friends dearly. She was a member of the Platte County School board for 19 years. She played an important role in bringing in the first hospital and nursing home to Wheatland. Her greatest joy was raising four children and her many grandchildren. Those who remember her will remember her love of flowers and how she loved to “shoot the moon” playing pinnacle.
She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
She is survived by her children Carol Russell of Wheatland, Bruce (Angie) Settell of Loveland, Ohio, Diana (Carl) Gross of Jackson, Wyoming, and Gary (Lana) Settell of Bend, Oregon. She leaves behind ten grandchildren; twenty-one great grandchildren; and five siblings, Richard Gudahl of Gering, Nebraska, Donald “Don” Gudahl of Wheatland, Gene Gudahl of Cheyenne Wyoming, Andrew “Andy” Gudahl of Wheatland, and Alice Jo (Gudahl) Parroitt of Bayard Nebraska.
She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar, on October 18, 1973; mother, Grace, on July 10, 1992; two brothers, Robert “Bob” on September 8, 1968 and Victor “Vic” on August 25, 1994; and her husband, Gus, on December 29, 2010.
