David A. Long, age 56, of Mount Gilead, passed away Sunday evening, June 5, 2016 at the Morrow County Hospital, following a history of heart disease.

On March 1, 1960, David was born in Mount Gilead, OH, the son of the late Charles Salo and Doris Ann (Long) Long. He graduated from Mount Gilead High School in the Class of 1978.

One evening at the In Cahoots Country Western Bar in the French Market, David was attracted to a young woman, Julie Eckelman. He was too shy to ask her to dance. After a few glasses of wine, she decided to ask him. They never left the dance floor that evening. On February 5, 1993 they were married at the Atonement Lutheran Church in Columbus, where they have been members ever since. They were truly blessed the last 23 years in their loving relationship as husband and wife.

David furthered his education at Marion Technical College, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 1997 with his Associate's in Data Processing. He then took a job as a Data Analyst Engineer with Macola in Marion, which later became Exact Software in Columbus, where he has been employed the past 19 years.

An avid Ohio State Buckeye fan, David followed all of their athletic teams, no matter which sport it was. He was a member of and enjoyed golfing at Pine Lakes in Mount Gilead. He spent many hours watching westerns and all of the other shows of his childhood on TV Land.

Every year David grew a vegetable garden. He enjoyed cooking, especially a family favorite, "lasagna surprise." He always liked going out to a good dinner and having a dark beer.

David found the greatest joy in his life when spending time with his family. He loved all of his children and absolutely cherished being "Papa" to his grandchildren. They were all his pride and joy. He wanted nothing more than to be with his family every chance he could.

He will be remembered as a laid back man, never getting too worked up about anything. He was quite the jokester and a big tease. He was a man of few words, but always had his opinion at the same time.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Julie, of Mount Gilead; four children: Amanda Long of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Nick (Courtney) Long of Marengo, Sara (Josh) Baldwin of Galion, Austin Long of Mount Gilead; four grandchildren: Kylie Baldwin, Addison Long, Karlie Baldwin, Elizabeth Long; his brother, Dan (Deidra) Long of Lancaster, OH; an uncle, Jack Long, of Mount Gilead; and numerous nieces and nephews.

David's family will greet friends from 4 – 7 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2016 at the Snyder Funeral Home, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. Services to honor and celebrate his life will be held there at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 with Pastor Dan Bell officiating. Burial will follow at Rivercliff Cemetery in Mount Gilead.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made in David's name to the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214.
