He had three brothers Clarence William Bray, Winton Victor Bray and Leon Willoughby Bray. He also had four sisters Lucille Elizabeth Beth Bray Price, Ethel Lee Bray Hogar, Addie B. Bray and Margaret Elizabeth Bray Hales. Derwood Bray was the band director of the Rocky Mount Community Band for many years.
