William Edgar Milholland was born May 21, 1856 in Jennings County, Indiana. He was the son of William Henry Milholland and Lucinda Gant Milholland.

His family moved to Fayette County, Illinois prior to 1870; then relocated again and by 1880 were living in Harrison County, Missouri.

William E. Milholland was a school teacher in Eagleville, Harrison County, Missouri. He died January 29, 1882 at the age of 25 in that county.
