Bryce met his love, Barbara (Bobbie) Naisbitt Shaw, on a blind date in 1941. They announced their engagement on December 7, 1941 (Pearl Harbor Day), and were married January 8, 1942 in Ogden, Utah.
Bryce served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
After the War, Bryce helped his father run the family orchard until President Kennedy commissioned him Postmaster for the Roy Post Office. He retired after twenty years in that position.
Bryce was a proud Democrat with deep roots in the party. As a young man, he sang at political rallies, and his father was Speaker in the Utah House. He had an abiding sense of service, and believed that doing for others was vital to living a good life. While serving on the Weber County School Board, Bryce was responsible for the hiring of T.H. Bell as school superintendent. In addition to his service with the School Board, he served on the Weber County Planning Commission, and was president of both the Roy Chamber of Commerce and the Ogden Golf and Country Club.
Bryce was an avid golfer, and has achieved eight holes-in-one in his lifetime, his last at the age of 96.
Bryce lived in his own home until his death.
At the time of his passing, Bryce was survived by one son, one daughter, 11 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bobbie, and granddaughter, Carlie Jensen.
