Mr. Johnny Michael Chirafis 81, of Corsicana, Texas died on October 30, 2006 at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Stefano Chirafis and his sisters Josephine Chirafis, Antoinette Varner and Rosa Lee Bowyer. He was born in Dallas, Texas on May 23, 1924 and moved to Corsicana, Texas as a baby. He attended public schools and played football for the Corsicana Tigers at Corsicana High School and then at the University of Texas before entering the service during World War II. He proudly served in the 34th Infantry Division of the Army and participated in the offensive in Northern Italy. He was honorably discharged after being injured in combat and awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for exemplary and brave service above and beyond the call of duty. After arriving back in Texas, he entered Baylor University earning a Law Degree. He returned to Corsicana and became an integral part of the law community and the Democratic Party. He proudly served as chairman of the Democratic Party in Navarro County. He was a member of the Navarro County Bar Association and the State Bar Association. He also served his community as a lawyer and city attorney. His practice served many in Navarro and surrounding counties. He was active in his church, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, throughout his life serving as an alter boy as a child and Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus. Although he had been retired from his law practice for many years prior to his death, he remained active in providing his knowledge of the law with all those who needed his help. He was surrounded throughout his entire life by lifelong friends and a family that loved and appreciated him. He is survived by his nieces; Frances and Frank Breazeale of Corsicana, TX and Rose Ann Renouf and John Sykes, nephew Stephen and Dawn Bowyer, Bryant and Brendon Bowyer. His great nieces and nephews, Kathleen Legrand of Austin and her husband Mark and their children Jennifer and Jake; Mark Frances Rash of Corsicana and her husband Chuck Rash and their children, Erin and Zack: Michele Mercy of Dallas, Denise Bonneson of Wisconsin and her husband Marty, Robert Breazeale of Corsicana, John Breazeale of Corsicana and his wife Ginger and children, Luke, Braden and Grant. There will be a Rosary service held at Corley Funeral Home on November 1, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. And a funeral Mass will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Thursday November 2, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. with interment following at Calvary Cemetery with Father Danilo Ramos officiating.
