Albring Bartholomew, 88, was held Tuesday
afternoon at the Hannibal Community Church. Mrs. Bartholomew died Saturday night,
Sept. 10, at Lee Memorial Hospital following
a long illness. She was a resident of Michaud
Nursing Home, having formerly lived in
Tampa, FL, many years and then at Towpath
Towers seven years.
The Reverend Robert Hooper, pastor of
the Community Church in Hannibal, officiated at the memorial service, being
assisted by the Reverend Stuart Wattles,
pastor of the First Presbyterian Church,
Fulton, and Mrs. Bartholomew's nephew,
the Reverend Gary Welling, .pastor of Grace
Baptist Church, Syracuse.
Born in the Town of Hannibal, Mrs. Bartholomew was a 1913 graduate of Hannibal
High School and in 1915 was graduated from
Rochester School of Dental Hygiene. This
was the State of New York's first class of
dental hygienists. In 1919, she also was certified as a dental hygienist in the State of
Michigan and worked as a hygienist in 10
public schools in the Ann Arbor area.
Mrs. Bartholomew married Hobart M.
Bartholomew in 1920 in Michigan. They
returned to the Hannibal area where they
resided until his death in 1946.
She worked in a bakery and also the Cornstock and Birdseye canning plants through
the years. She retired as a hygienist in 1954
from the office of Dr. Leigh Simpson in
Fulton.
A member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fulton, she taught Sunday School for
several years and was also a member of the
Elizabeth Robinson class and United
Presbyterian Women of the Fulton church.
She'was a member of Kayendatsyona Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution;
, the Towpath Towers Association; Fulton
Senior Citizens Club; and the American
Association of Retired Persons.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Edward
(Elizabeth) Doud of Fulton, and Mrs. Ruth
Stacy; three sons, Richard Bartholomew of
the Town of Clay, Robert Bartholomew of
Fulton, and Donald Bartholomew; two
sisters, Mrs. Howard (Marion) Marsh of
Lakeland, FL, and Mrs. John (Grace) Cox of
Hannibal; 14 grandchildren; 19 greatgrandchildren; and a great-great-grandson,
as well as several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be
made for memorial Bibles to the Gideons International, an interdenominational
association that distributes Bibles, and
Testaments worldwide in more than 40
languages.
