Folk Figure. Morris was the world's oldest recognized living woman at the time of her death, having been recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records in March 2000. She was born in Newcastle-under-Lyme and was widowed in the 1930s, having produced one child, Winnie, who died of cancer in 1975 at age 62. She lived in her own apartment until a chest infection in 1992 forced her to move to a nursing home in the central English town of Stone for the final eight years of her life. She attributed her longevity to boiled onions and whiskey.
