Will Robert Sims, 80, of Hanover, died Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at King's Daughters' Hospital.

He was born Oct. 1, 1935, in Grayson County, Ky., to David and Clarabelle Alvey Sims. He moved with his family in the 1940s, first to Clark County and then to Jefferson County. He attended school at the former St. Mary's Catholic Church. He worked the whole time he was in junior and senior high school. He delivered newspapers on his bike before school started. He then worked for Harper's Drug Store, where he bottled medicines, served customers and delivered prescriptions. He later worked at Bodem's Filling Station in Hanover. After graduation from Hanover High School, he joined the Indiana-Kentucky Electric Corporation in 1955. He was promoted to Maintenance Supervisor in 1988. He retired after 42 1/2 years of service. In the late 1950s he had a second job working for Storm-Yancey Service Station in Hanover. In the early 1960s he farmed a small tobacco patch. He eventually bought a farm where he enjoyed planting and raising cattle. He had a pet peacock, several dogs and later a cat. In the late 1960s he served as Democrat Precinct Committee Person. He was elected Hanover Township Trustee in 1972 and served until December 2014. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, the former Hanover Optimist Club, and the Indiana Township Association. He also served many years on the former Jefferson County Welfare Board. He also drove Nova-Med and American Eye. He enjoyed farming, traveling, and talking with family, friends and strangers.

He is survived by his wife, Gail Holcomb Sims, whom he married Jan. 31, 1959; four daughters, Alisa Anderson of Augusta, Ga., Melody Cole of Madison, and Kim Smith and Sheila Sims, both of Hanover; two sons, Rob Sims and Michael Sims, both of Hanover; two sisters, Nellie Lichlyter of Madison and Ima Coleen Earhart of Sellersburg; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
