Frederick T. "Fred" Ray, assistant fire chief and fire marshal in Normandy, died Sunday, February 4, 2001 of a sudden heart attack. He was 55.

In 1967, Fred joined the Pine Lawn Fire Department, which shortly after merged into the Normandy Fire Protection District. He was promoted to captain in the Normandy Fire
Protection District in 1982 and was appointed assistant chief five years later.

In 1996 Mr. Ray Married Pauline Randazzo of Florissant. His first wife, Bonnie died in 1993.

In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters; Jennifer Stevenson, Stephanie Petrus and Christine Brown; a sister Jen Guiney, a brother Michael and two grandchildren. He was a precious friend to many.

He was very well respected as a fire marshal and everyone in the area knew him. He was a good firefighter.
