He was born in Salamonia, Indiana to William P. and Martha Jane White Beard. On July 6, 1927, he married Anna Leona Uhrich. She died November 9, 1935.

Surviving are the stepdaughter, Bernice, wife of Edwin Gibson, and the following brothers, and sisters: Mrs. George Huffman of Fort Recovery, Arlie Beard of Peru, Henry Beard of Union City, Alvin Beard of Indianapolis, Mrs. T. C. Christman of Indianapolis, Elsworth Beard of Dayton and Elmer Beard of East Main street, Portland. Three brothers and one sister are deceased.

He was an employee of the Naas corporation.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
