Rodney Carl Britain, 76 of Independence, KS, died Saturday evening December 11, 2004, at his home.
The son of Don L. and Angie (Dozier) Britain, he was born March 21, 1928, in rural Moline, Kansas. He attended rural schools near Buxton, KS, and later in the rural Longton, KS, area.
He joined the US Marines and served in Korea during the Korean Conflict.
After his honorable discharge, he returned to Oak Valley, Ks, to care for his grandmother. He then attended Wichita Technical School where he studied to be an electronic technician.
He was employed at the Starcraft Boat Company for 13 years until the closing of the plant. He then worked for Hackney and Sons, retiring after 25 years of employment. He later took a position as the caretaker for Havana Lake where he worked for seven years. He returned to Independence, KS, in 2000.
On June 8, 1962, he married Ruth Mossman in Independence, KS. She survives at the home.
He was an active member of the Tyro Christian Church and also belonged to the American Legion in Howard, KS, and the VFW in Neodesha, KS.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Carl Allen Britain of Longton, KS, and one sister, Lucille Foster of Willard, MO.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Cindy; four brothers, Wardor, Bert, Clifford and Lewis; and one sister, Eva.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2004, at Penwell Gabel Webb & Rodrick Chapel.
Interment will be at 11:30 a.m. in Longton Cemetery. Rev. David Bycroft will officiate. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. and Wednesday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6-8 p.m.
