Steven John Slovak, 52, passed away Thursday, June 9, 2016, in Gilmer, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2016, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Liturgy outside of Mass will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 14, 2016, in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Father John Dick officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Steven was born in Arlington, Texas, to the late Victor V. and Louise (Zabojnik) Slovak. Steven grew up in Ennis and attended St John School before graduating from Ennis High School.

He worked for Cody Company for 15 years as a machinist and for Rich’s Machinery Company in Longview. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and outdoors activities including fishing, hunting and gardening. He was a pet lover and his pets were important to him. He had lived in New York for a short period of time.

He was preceded in death by his father, Victor Slovak, in 1997.

He is survived by his mother, Louise Slovak; five brothers: Danny Slovak and wife, Pat, Victor Slovak and wife, Kim, Patrick Slovak and wife, Debbie, Sammy Slovak and Billy Slovak and wife, Sandra; one sister, Louise Dickerson and husband, Matt along with his numerous nieces and nephews who provided great joy in Steven’s life.
