Walter J. "Bud" Kracht, age 85, of 4921 Elmer Lane, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly
late Friday, Aug. 19, 2005 at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc,
surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005 at Grace
Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2426 N. Rapids Road. Manitowoc. Officiating at the
service will be the Rev. Thomas Pankow, with burial to follow in the Mishicot
Public Cemetery.
Walter was born Jan. 31, 1920 in Two Rivers, the son of the late Walter and Ella
(Mattek) Kracht. He attended Kewaunee area schools, and was a 1936 graduate of
Kewaunee High School. He then furthered his education, attending the agricultural
short course in Madison for one year. On June 20, 1942, he was married to Lillian
Tesarik at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Two Creeks. She preceded him
in death Jan. 26, 1980. Walter then married Lois Zobel on Nov. 13, 1982, at St.
John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Gibson. Bud was a dairy farmer in the town of
Mishicot for many years, and also owned and operated his own trucking business.
He also worked as an insurance agent, and a seed corn salesman. He was a longtime,
active member and council member at St. John's Lutheran Church in Two Creeks; past
4-H leader; and served on the Manitowoc County Board of Adjustments, and the Park
and Planning Commission. Bud enjoyed sports, especially pitching for Tisch Mills
Softball league; playing golf; bowling and watching many sporting events, including
a grandson's Badger football games. He also loved to play cards. In his retirement
years, he lived in both Two Rivers and Manitowoc, and was currently a member of
Grace Evangeical Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Kracht; his beloved children, Janet and Jerome
Kieselhorst, Franklin, Wis., Diane and Edward Lorenz, Manitowoc, June and Edward
Hinshaw, Two Rivers, Delores and Fred Schuetze, Port Washington, Cheryl and Richard
Bonde, Newton, Dave and Kathy Zobel, Menasha, and Jim and Sandi Zobel, Park Falls;
21 grandchildren, and 40 great grandchildren. He is further survived by one sister,
Lorraine Oswald, Green Bay; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, and first wife, he was preceded in death by one sister
and four brothers-in-law, Shirley (Herb) Lockwood, Gerald Oswald, Erwin Tesarik,
and Adolph Tesarik, Jr.
Friends may call at the Lambert-Eckert Funeral Home in Mishicot, from 5 until 8
p.m. Monday evening. Visitation will continue at the church on Tuesday after 10
a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be
appreciated to Manitowoc Lutheran High School.
