~~A member of the Standard Swimming Unit, the unit included an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team, Underwater Demolition Team, Beach Clearance and Attack Teams. The Canadian Divers trained along the West Coast of British Columbia for mine disposal using Clearance Diver Breathing Apparatus (CDBA) from the 'Naden', an escort maintenance ship, based in Esquimalt, British Columbia.
~~On 14 June 1962, 35-year-old Lieutenant Commander Francis Merrick Bayfield-Davis died after his CDBA failed during diving operations at Esquimalt.
~~Following Bayfield-Davis' death, the Royal Canadian Navy developed acoustically/magnetically safe scuba gear.
