New Bern ~ Mrs. Helen Mae Acker Ford, 84, passed away at Bavview Nursing & Rehab Center on Friday, July 11, 2014.
A longtime resident of Craven County, Helen enjoyed bingo, making costume jewelry, puzzles, and hitting yard sales. She was a “picker” before it became fashionable.
A memorial service will be 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 14 at Pollock Best Funeral Home with Craven County Hospice Chaplain Angel Lorton officiating. Inurnment will be in New Bern National Cemetery with her late husband of 45 years, Henry Ford, who died October 29, 1989.
Helen is survived by six children, Linda F. Saulter and husband, Archie of New Bern, H. Perry Ford, Jr. and wife, Sally of Lakeland, Florida, Angie Fillyaw of Apoka, FL; Dennie L. Ford and wife, Felicia of Wilmington, NC, Charlie A. Ford and wife, Mitzi of Ottosen, Iowa; and Ricky B. Ford and wife, Linda of New Bern. She also leaves behind her sisters, Retha White of Wilson, NC, Rose Treadway of Goldsboro, NC, Betty Cowells of Asheville, NC, Patricia Woolford of Goldsboro, NC,; her brothers, Robert Acker of Vanceboro, NC, Haramon Acker of Ernul; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.
