William "Bill" Joseph Baer, 79, of Beloit, WI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, June 7, 2006.

He was born September 9, 1926 in Marshfield, WI, the son of William Peter and Mary M. Seidl Baer. Bill graduated from Wisconsin Rapids High School in 1944, and served in the U.S. Navy from August 1944 until May of 1946 and earned the Okinawa invasion ribbon. He attended Stout University and received a BS Degree in Industrial Arts Education in 1950. After graduation he worked as an Industrial Arts Teacher at Messmer High School in Milwaukee, WI. Bill married Dorothy Huley on June 9, 1951 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Milton, WI and moved to Beloit, WI.

Bill was employed as an inspector at the Beloit Corporation for 37 years and retired in August of 1987 and enjoyed winters in Florida and Seattle, WA. His volunteer efforts supported; St. Jude's, Brother Dutton, Beloit Catholic High School, Kiwanis Club, Red Cross, American Legion, Meals on Wheels, Caritas and Mrs. Ruch's class at Hackett Elementary School.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Dorothy Baer of Beloit, WI; his children, Daniel (Carol) Baer of Beloit, WI, Diane (Dale) Moyer of South Elgin, IL, Mary Ann (Pat) McNamee of Menasha, WI, and William F.(Gwenn) Baer of Everett, WA and Suzanne Baer of Beloit, WI; grandchildren, JoAnne (Matt) Ruch, Brian (Kim) Baer, Nicholas (Michelle) Baer, Crystal (fiancée, Naveen Viswanatha) Moyer, Jessica (Brandon) Garcia, Andrew Moyer, Maxwell Baer and Marissa Baer; brothers and sisters, Fr. Campion Baer of Detroit, MI, Teresa M. (Delbert) Polzin of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and Mary Ann (Gerry) Krueger of Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June11, 2006 in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI, followed by a visitation from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2006 in St. Jude Catholic Church 737 Hackett Street Beloit, WI, with Fr. Campion Baer officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery.
