Alfred B. Rowe

Son of Alden B. Rowe & Vesta Victoria Williams. Born in Historic Challenge Mill in Yuba County as the California Gold Rush was winding down. But, the gold rush era left it's mark on this man who evenually left his wife, Emily Cecelia Nelson Rowe, and younger children to mine for gold in Myrtle Creek (Douglas County, Oregon). This led to a divorce. He was visited though, by children and grandchildren.

Alfred was devoted to his mother, as evidenced by an article in a 1904 edition of the Roseburg, Oregon paper, that said, "Alfred and Ernest Rowe, who live at Gardiner, came in yesterday at the call that their mother was critically ill. They missed the stage and had to walk 45 miles of the way, which they accomplished in 18 hours."
