Chicago Sun-Times - January 3, 1990:
Lloyd Alan Laflin, 86, of Lake Forest, died Saturday at his winter home in Palm Springs, Calif.

Mr. Laflin was the great-grandson of Matthew Laflin, who came to Chicago in 1837 and who donated the building that houses the Chicago Academy of Sciences in Lincoln Park. Laflin Street was named in his honor.

Mr. Laflin was a trustee of the academy. He was a pioneer aviator and held patents in the development of the seaplane.

He attended Princeton University between 1923 and 1926. He served as a lieutenant commander in the Navy during World War II, and worked for many years as a director and head of sales for the now-defunct Elgin Watch Co.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia; three daughters, Karen Laflin, Mary Moor and Maureen Cantlin; five grandchildren, and a great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at noon Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Lake Forest, 700 N. Sheridan Rd.
