Heroic nurse who died of pneumonia two weeks after being shot in the chest by a delirious typhoid patient, who thought burglars were threatening his family. She was gravely wounded, but managed to get the gun away from him before anyone else was injured. She was posthumously awarded a silver medal by the Carnegie Hero Commission.
