Alfred was the son of Daniel Sprankle & Nancy Allman.

He married:

(1) Catherine Stumbaugh on 29 Jun 1854 in Stark Co., OH

(2) Emma F. Rariden on 1 Sep 1887 in Fountain Co., IN; they divorced

(3) Lenna Carney Williams on 12 May 1898 in Marion Co., IN

Alfred & Catherine had the following children: Sylvester Charles; Webster; Walter S.; Clara "Carrie" (Cochran, Henshaw, Shively); Harry; Myra (Badger); & Jessie.

Alfred divorced Emma in 1895 due to her drunkenness. She died at the poor farm in Fountain Co. Note that her death certificate incorrectly spells her surname Sprangle and erroneously states her husband is Sylvester.

An article in the 21 Dec 1912 The Enterprise & South San Francisco Journal describes that Alfred and another man were walking along the railroad tracks at Visitacion when Alfred was struck by a train. ". . . they had left the track upon which a freight train was running and stepped upon the track of the passenger train." The coroner's jury ruled the death accidental. The article concludes with: "He leaves relatives who reside in Berkeley."

We continue to search for his location of burial; however, it seems likely he was cremated.
