Born November 22, 1920, in Kane, he was a son of the late James and Zula Payne Ackley. He was married to the former Marian Dougherty who preceded him in death in 1996.
Mr. Ackley had worked as an oil field technician for Pennzoil and later for other local oil producers. During WWII, he served in the Army with the 65th Division 261st Infantry, attaining the rank of Sergeant.
He was a member of the VFW Lodge # 1132 and the American Legion Post #250 where he was Past Post Commander. He was one of the oldest living members of the Kane Elks #329 and belonged to the Mountain Grange #1307.
Surviving are three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Tracey of Claremont, CA, Charlotte Ackley of Fredericksburg, VA and Ruth Ackley of Kane. Several Nieces and nephews also survive, including nephew Dennis Ackley of Kane.
Friends and family may attend a graveside service at 10:00 am Thursday at St. Callistus Cemetery where burial will follow.
