When Beatrice Marjorie Cook was born on
May 6, 1912, in Wayne County,
Pennsylvania, her father, James, was 27
and her mother, Mary, was 17. She married
Virgil Warren Davis, from Ohio, and they
had three children together: Rollis,
Cameron and Cheryl.
When her mother died, Beatrice was only
14, and went to live, first with her father in
Detroit, then with her grandparents in
Pennsylvania. She met her future husband
while visiting with her aunt in Ohio. Virgil’s
family attended the same church as did her
aunt, and that is where they met. They
married in 1932, while she was still living in
Pennsylvania with her grandparents. They
eventually moved to Ohio, where Virgil
found work in the steel industry and
construction business.
She moved with her young family to
Southern California in 1956, where she
lived the rest of her life. Throughout her
life, but especially while living in California,
Beatrice wrote many poems and letters, a
way for her to keep in touch with her friends
and family back East. She was devoted to
her family and to her faith, living in good
health to the age of 94.
