Elizabeth A. Cartrette Nealy (Neely) was born in 1823 in Columbus County, North Carolina. Elizabeth married Edmund Nealy, and at various times the family lived in either Columbus County, North Carolina or nearby Horry County, South Carolina. They had eight children: Wallace Neely (her stepson), Datmon (Dalmon) Neely, J. H. Neely, Lester Neely, Lisbon Neely, J. Richmond Neely, Louisa Catherine Neely Norris, and Joseph E. Neely. Elizabeth's husband was a Confederate soldier who died of wounds received during the war. Both she and Edmund may be buried in the McPherson Cemetery in Columbus County. Elizabeth may have died in 1870 or lived beyond 1885.
